Healthy Ways to Shed the Extra Pounds - Weight Loss Tips

Weight loss is a gradual process. Starvation diets and intensive workouts pose higher risks than benefits. Self-motivation is the key to a successful weight loss program. Here are a few weight loss tips for you to lose your weight such that it doesn’t affect your health.

Be sure to meet your body’s daily energy needs

Although you need to cut down on the number of calories you consume daily, in order to lose weight, it is equally important to not starve yourself. You need to provide your body with enough calories to be able to perform your daily activities. A diet giving you lower than 1500 calories per day leads to a feeling of starvation and causes you to weaken your resolve. Eventually you end up in desperation and lose control over how much you eat.

Adopt a more active lifestyle gradually

An increase in the level of activities performed during the day combined with a control on your diet will definitely help you shed pounds. This can also include household chores. Include a workout in your routine and you will see yourself losing pounds faster. However, the addition of exercises should be done gradually, so as not to hurt your muscles and ligaments with a sudden increase of activity. Even if you do not like to attend the gym, you can always go for a brisk walk, run, or join a dance class. Try following simple things like walking up the stairs instead of taking the lift and parking your car as far away as possible so that you can walk your way to the stores.

Get support from loved ones

Be sure to tell your close friends, family, and colleagues that you are on a weight loss program. You can even ask them for weight loss tips and request them to be kind but firm if you fall weak, over-eat, or reach out for unhealthy foods.

Tips on cutting down the calories

The calories you consume should be less than the calories you burn. This is the simple calculation you should work with. The ideal way to achieve this is to decrease the portion sizes of your meals. Be realistic while cutting down the calories. Try substituting unhealthy, processed foods with healthy, natural foods. This is one of the weight loss tips you should follow.

Fat is a powerhouse of energy. It contains more calories than carbohydrates and proteins, per gram consumed. Hence reduce the number of calories gained from fats and instead consume more fruits and vegetables.

Some simple changes you can make to your eating habits are:

  • Reduce the amount of sugar consumed. Drink tea and coffee without adding sugar.
  • Cut out on biscuits, cookies, cakes, and pizzas. You can instead snack on a fruit.
  • Replace white bread with brown wheat bread or multigrain bread.
  • Switch to eating more of white meat such as fish and chicken rather than red meat
  • Cut down on alcohol.
  • Switch to skimmed milk from whole milk.

You can consume about 1500 calories per day. Do not switch to a drastically low-calorie diet; this will lead to cravings and you will not be able to sustain such a diet plan for long.
